Lia Ukleba (b. 1975)
Is a self-taught artist whose work explores psychological states, quiet narratives, and subtle social tensions through symbolic imagery. She graduated from Akaki Tsereteli State University with a degree in child psychology, a background that informs the introspective and emotional dimension of her paintings.
Although she did not receive formal academic training in art, drawing and painting have been a constant presence in her life. Ukleba approaches her practice as a continuous search for new forms, ideas, colors, and materials, developing a highly personal visual language.
Her paintings often depict calm, intimate scenes that carry an underlying psychological tension. Domestic spaces, solitary figures, animals, and symbolic objects appear within carefully composed environments, creating narratives that oscillate between tranquility and unease. Beneath their quiet surfaces, the works reflect personal reflection as well as the emotional atmosphere shaped by contemporary social and political realities.
Ukleba has participated in several exhibitions, including Artisterium (2019), the International Feminist Festival in Tunis (2017), exhibitions in Baden-Baden, Germany (2014), and solo and group exhibitions in Tbilisi, most recently in 2024.
